Self-proclaimed vintage lover and hopelessly romantic Erin Fetherston has just unveiled one of the most nostalgic collections of all time at New York Fashion Week. The Erin Fetherston fall/winter 2016-17 ready-to-wear collection is, in fact, inspired by the designer’s sense of longing, originated from her first pregnancy (baby Fetherston is due in a few days!).
“It was a really nostalgic trip down memory lane. I rediscovered all these beloved pieces, and the memories attached to them. […] The fun of the treasure hunt got reawakened in me. I wanted the collection to capture that feeling, and to have that eclectic style to it,” she told Vogue, remembering those moments when it took months and months to find that perfect piece of clothing that could make you feel so special. She still does crave all those past years when fashion wasn’t ‘that’ fast and focused more on creativity and individuality, giving anyone more time to celebrate and work on style.

With that premise, her signature whimsical and feminine image and sensibility blossomed, serving us an array of autumnal hues and warm fabrics that will just melt any heart. To make things even more interesting, she even declared that some of these pieces were inspired by some of her own wardrobe essentials.

The color palette of the Erin Fetherston fall 2016 collection mainly focuses on reds and pinks, but in their more mature and darker forms, such as dusty pink and burgundy, which enhance their mysterious allure when combined with bold blacks and rich velvet materials. Even the brighter proposals exude such enigmatic vibes, taking advantage of the sinuous silky fabrics and crochet lace embroideries the looks often feature. Fetherston’s ability of combining colors is equally impressive as that of playing with different fabrics, which aside from velvet, crochet and silk include corduroy and black brocade attachments.

Infused with a “scrapbook vibe,” as Erin Fetherston likes to call it, the lineup also showcases some to-die-for boho-chic patterns, which effortlessly give the floor-length frocks some cool vintage touches. Midi and mini dresses alternate layered frills with waist-less cuts, making us frenetically travel back and forth in time from the Fifties to the late Seventies. Peek-a-boo cut-outs, roomy butterfly sleeves and covetable rounded clutches confirm Fetherston’s attention to detailing, making us feel emotionally unstable when near one of her modern-day-princess-worthy creations (one of her most enthusiastic followers is Zooey Deschanel, which basically says it all).

Erin Fetherston, who started her namesake label back in 2005, went couture before embracing ready-to-wear, meaning that her haute couture fantasy influences are still vivid within her RTW collections. The Erin Fetherston fall 2016 line-up also exudes some (even if not that strong) couture vibes, while still managing to be highly wearable and versatile.
